In 2019, the founder had the opportunity to lead the first knowledge transfer partnership in Oman between academia, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the largest oil and gas company in Oman, and an Omani SME. This partnership started with the main objective of introducing machine learning (ML) into the gas asset and resulted in the development of a forecast management system utilizing the latest ML algorithms for gas production forecasts. The tool deployment has reduced the time spent in the forecast process by 50% and improved the forecast accuracy by 40% compared to conventional systems. In addition to the great impact of this tool on the planning, productivity and
profitability of PDO, we managed through the partnership to provide a sustainable source of funding to an academic institution, upskill the employees in PDO, invest in the national talents and produce high-quality research based on real data.
